Adhwana has successfully completed in February 2014 the second year of its prestigious project - Dalit Empowerment and Education Program - after carrying out all the 14 activity components leading to make an impact on the lives of the dalit people in four Grama panchayats in Trivandrum District.

The third year program is commenced with a planning process for implementing continuous activities in the villages and at the central levels.

Jalanidhi Project is successfully being implemented in Kurichy Grama Panchayat in Kottayam District. Adhwana had a 8 member team in Kurichy led by Mr. Binoy Balan and supported by Project Commissoiner, Ms. Manju. The project has almost crossed over the planning and mobilization phase before the most important construction phase. Documentation of the engineering survey is beingdone.

AHVY project in Mahe is in the process of mobilizing handicrafts artisans and completing their base line survey. It is planned to complete the initial phase of the project by May 2014.

Adhwana has observed National Science Day 2014 at Government Women's I T I, Kazhakuttom on 22nd February 2014 with the theme fostering scientific temper with special reference to energy conservation and solar energy.

Adhwana continues to be a partner of National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) with the approval of Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF)


Dalit Swabhiman Samithies promoted by Adhwana has organized on 14th April 2014 a talk and discussion on the life and message of Dr.Baba Saheb Ambadkar on the occassion of his 123rd Birthday at Maranelloor, one of the four Grama Panchayats, where Dalit Empowerment and Education Program is being implemented. Mr. Ebenezer Issac, a reputed resource person on the subject and an active member of Dalit Network of Adhwana has delivered the talk and facilitated an active discussion. 


Mrs. Cherupushpam, Village Coordiantor for Maranelloor Grama Panchayat has coordinated the event with the support of Adv.Anitha M.R., Coordinator for the Legal Aid Cell.


45 members of the Dalit Swabhiman Samithies participated in the programs.




A Leaders' Meet was conducted on 14th April 2014 at Vithura as part of the review and monitoring activities in connection with the implementaion of Dalit Empowerment and Education Program. Dr. J Mary John, Project Director and Mr.B.Nandakumar, Program Coordinator, participated and facilitated the meeting.

The meetings discussed ways and means to strengthen the Dalit Swabhiman Samithies functioning in Vithura Grama Panchayat as a priority subject. A review of the programs conducted during 2013-14 was done, followed by a planning session on the programs to be organized during 2014-15. The leaders enthusiastically shared their suggestions.



An Executive Committee meeting of Adhwana Dalit Network held at 11 AM on 22nd April 2014 at Adhwana Office adopted a name for itself as ' Dalit Samaavesh: Adhwana Dalit Network for Education and Empowerment'. A logo for the same was also approved.

The meeting presided over by Mr. Nelson Thomas, Chairperson, Dalit Samaavesh and moderated by Mr.K.Pratapachandran, Secretary, Adhwana, decided to make use of the fast advancing information technology, internet and social media to extend the network to higher and wider spheres.

The meeting  decided to organize programs in collaboration with the main interfventions of Adhwana and like minded organizations.


It was attended also by Dr. J M John, Chairperson, Adhwana, Mr. B.Nandakumar, Program Coordinator, Mr. Samson, Mrs. Sunita Ekalavyan, Mrs. Anitha Rajesh and Mrs. Ajitha Ani.


Adhwana is organziing the 9th Right Based Training (RBT) for Dalit Leaders on 26th April 2014 at TSSS Conference Hall, Vellayambalam Trivandrum. This program will discuss  the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 and its applications for dalit development at the grassroots. It is expected that RTI will become an effective tool for the dalit leaders to get more and more invovled in the local governance. Mr. Ajith Venniyoor, an RTI activist, will facilitate the sessions to be moderated by Adhwana Team. More than 40 dalit leaders will participate in the program from 10 AM to PM.



Adhwana has organized three Orientation Programs on Government Schemes and Career guidance for the dalit students of Vithura, Kadinamkulam and Maranelloor Grama Panchayats. The fourth program is being organized for the GP of Aruvikkara on 6th June 2014. Mr. Shyji, the Block Level implementing officer and Mr. Samson Joseph, Rtd. District Officer of Kerala Public Service Commission have facilitated sessions. The students were personally attended to and given guidance and instructions on career guidance and available schmes for education.


Adhwana has organized an exposure visit to four different and unique IGPs run by women in Trivandrum District. 25 persons including DSS leaders and functionaries took part in the program. The group visited Technoworld, a successful ITES unit managed by a group of women, Green Village, a marketing unit for the products of women engaged in self employed units, a nutrient production unit managed by another group of women and herbal medicine products unit. The participants reported that the exposure program was highly useful.


A one day Seminar on "Shoreline Changes in Trivandrum Coast" was successfully conducted at AICUF Centre, Trivandrum on 09.01.15 by ADHWANA and Consortium for Coastal Environment (CCE). 


Participating in the National Environment Awareness Campaign(NEAC) of Ministry of Environment and Forests(MoEF); ADHWANA and Consortium for Coastal Environment( CCE) organized a seminar on " Shoreline Changes in Trivandrum District" on 9th of January 2015. Fr. Lenin raj (Director, TSSS) inaugurated the seminar. Dr. K.V. Thomas(Scientist, CESS) and Mr. A.J. Vijayan(Environmentalist) handled the sessions.

Adhwana Kerala Forum of Partners in Functional Vocational Training is a not-for-profit non-governmental development organization registered in 2002 under Societies Act XXI of 1860. The original objective of the organization was to promote functional vocational skills among school dropout youth of socially and economically backward sections of people.
