SDG 01 - Program 01

Sustainable Livelihood Promotion among Scheduled Caste (SC) Communities in Trivandrum District, Kerala, India

Implemented income-generating and eco-friendly projects in collaboration with four Gram Panchayats, focusing on:
- Poultry Farming for income generation and food security.
- Vermi Composting for organic farming and waste management.
- Kitchen Gardening for access to nutritious food.
- Construction of Sanitary Latrines for better sanitation.
- Vocational Skill Training for promoting marketable skills among school dropout youth.


Benefitted several hundred poor and marginalized families.

Formed Adhwana Swabhiman Samithies or Sustainable Development Groups (SDGs) for collective action, enhanced self-esteem and mutual support.

Conducted training and awareness programs on water and sanitation, food security, and healthy nutrition.

Strengthened beneficiaries' capacities to actively participate in project implementation and monitoring.

Dalit Empowerment and Education Program


Supported income-generating units using a revolving fund.

Promoted entrepreneurial and technical skills development for poor and unemployed women.

Conducted functional vocational training programs to enhance employability and self-employment.

Provided financial support to Dalit families for micro-income-generating activities like goat rearing.

Conducted right-based awareness programs in the sectors of Child Development, Women Empowerment and Livelihood Promotion.

Development and Access to Entitlements of Marginalized Communities (Lok Manch):


Linked Lok Manch participants with citizen entitlements to foster civic engagement.

Formed 20 village-level pockets involving 3,000 households in project areas.

Enhance Organizational Capacity in Functional Vocational Training


Conducted a survey of Functional Vocational Training (FVT) projects in Kerala.

Participated in and organized training on "Curriculum Development" with Functional Vocational Training Forum (FVTF), Neyyanttinkara Integral Development Society (NIDS), and Peerumedu Development Society (PDS).

Organized Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs) for trainees of technical skill development.

Operations and maintenance of Fathima Matha Community College and trained 500 school dropout youth annually leading them to employment or self-employment in partnership with Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS), National Institute for Open Schooling (NIOS), Madras Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (MCRDCE) and HILFSWERK HILFE ZUR, Liechtenstein.

Mother Teresa Day Care Centre (MTDCC)


Operations and maintenance of Mother Teresa Day Care Centre and trained 50 differently abled children annually leading them to complete their school education in partnership with Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS), National Institute for Open Schooling (NIOS), Madras Centre for Research and Development of Community Education (MCRDCE) and HILFSWERK HILFE ZUR, Liechtenstein.

Empowerment and Community Actions from eco-feminism for gender equity in the community of Valiyathura


Adhwana implemented a women empowerment project from January 2003 to June 2024 in seven coastal areas of Trivandrum, benefiting housewives, fish vending women, adolescents, and fishermen in partnership with Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS), Calcatta Ondoan, Spain and local bodies in Trivandrum Municipal Corporation. The project formed Self-Help Groups (SHGs), forums, and federated higher groups, working with local bodies on activities such as skill development, livelihood promotion, awareness sessions, and environmental conservation. Key outcomes included enhanced knowledge of social issues, livelihood support, organic gardening, anti-violence sensitization, and environmental responsibility. Additionally, many women received training in employment and self-employment trades.

Valiyathura Housing Project (VaHP)


Four houses are being built for very poor families in Valiyathura coastal village where people are heavily affected by sea erosion and shoreline damages in partnership with Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS), and HILFSWERK HILFE ZUR, Liechtenstein.

Trivandrum Rural Housing Project


Process initiated to construct 12 houses for the marginalised fishermen families in Pulluvila and Thuthur regions in Trivandrum and Kanyakumari Districts respectively in India.

Support for Reconstructions and development of victims of Ockhi cyclone in Trivandrum, India

Adhwana, in collaboration with the Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS) and the Italian Bishops Conference, supported the reconstruction and development efforts for victims of the Ockhi cyclone in Trivandrum, India. The initiative focused on providing relief, rebuilding livelihoods, and addressing the long-term needs of affected communities through various support programs aimed at enhancing resilience and sustainable development.
