Sustainable Livelihood Promotion among Scheduled Caste (SC) Communities in Trivandrum District, Kerala


Key Initiatives:

Implementation of eco-friendly, income-generating projects:
- Poultry Farming for income generation and food security.
- Vermi Composting for organic farming and waste management.
- Kitchen Gardening for access to nutritious food.
- Construction of Sanitary Latrines to ensure sanitation.
- Vocational Skill Training to promote marketable skills for school dropouts.
- Collaboration with four Gram Panchayats (local governing bodies), benefiting hundreds of poor and marginalized families.

Community Engagement:
- Formation of Adhwana Swabhiman Samithies or Sustainable Development Groups (SDGs) for collective action and mutual support.
- Training and awareness sessions on water and sanitation, food security, and healthy eating.
- Capacity-building of beneficiaries for active participation in project implementation and monitoring.

Dalit Empowerment and Education Program


Support for income-generating units through a revolving fund.

Development of entrepreneurial and technical skills for unemployed women.

Functional vocational training programs for skill development and self-employment opportunities.

Financial support for micro-income-generating activities such as goat rearing for Dalit families.

Development and Access to Entitlements of Marginalized Communities


Linking Lok Manch participants with citizen entitlements to enhance civic engagement.

Formation of 20 village-level pockets involving 3,000 households.

Survey of Functional Vocational Training (FVT) programs to analyze past and current implementations in Kerala.

Curriculum Development Initiatives: Organized training sessions in collaboration with FVTF, NIDS, and PDS and conducted field visits and training in curriculum planning and development.

Organized Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs) for technical skill trainees.

Raised resources for food kits worth ₹1,000 each for 100 families identified as very poor.

Training and Capacity-Building Programs


Residential Trainers' Training Program in Rural Marketing: Sessions on rural marketing strategies and group exercises for drafting market research proposals.

Trainers' Training Program on Life Coping Skills:
- Equipping participants with skills and strategies for livelihood promotion, particularly for tsunami-affected communities.
- Trainers' Training Program on Curriculum Planning
- Field visits and intensive training based on real-world curriculum development experiences.

Orientation Program for Group Monitoring Exercises: Formation of monitoring teams and development of tools for evaluating vocational training projects.

Organized exposure visits to four community colleges in Madurai and Trichy to provide participants with an overview of the community college education system.

National Workshop on Marketing of Products and Services: Awareness creation, sharing of best practices, and establishment of marketing linkages for vocational products and services.

Support for Reconstructions and development of victims of Ockhi cyclone in Trivandrum, India

Adhwana, in collaboration with the Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS) and the Italian Bishops Conference, supported the reconstruction and development efforts for victims of the Ockhi cyclone in Trivandrum, India. The initiative focused on providing relief, rebuilding livelihoods, and addressing the long-term needs of affected communities through various support programs aimed at enhancing resilience and sustainable development.
